2020 is shaping up to be the year of the Australian holiday. After the horror summer of bushfires and now the fear surrounding coronavirus, there has never been a better time to book your next holiday in Australia. Here in Jervis Bay, we rely on tourism to keep our local economy running and many businesses are doing it tough. While the message over the summer was to leave, the message now is overwhelmingly to come back.

Here’s how you can do your bit to help out.

Australian Holiday Inspiration

Looking for inspiration or simply want to know what areas need your investment the most? Tourism Australia and Destination NSW have both launched nationwide campaigns and smaller organisations and community groups are putting out the call as well.

  • Tourism Australia’s Holiday Here This Year campaign is designed to encourage all Australians to do their bit for struggling local economies and book an Australian holiday instead of flying overseas. You can spread the word by joining the Facebook event and sharing your holiday pics on social media using the hashtag #HolidayHereThisYear.
  • Now’s The Time To Love NSW is focussed on helping drought and fire affected communities in NSW recover. There’s plenty of travel inspiration on the website as well as special offers on flights and accommodation. Share your love for NSW using the hashtag #LoveNSW.
  • Empty Esky connects small businesses affected by the fires with foodies and adventurers wanting to support them. The idea is not to pack much for your trip and buy everything you need locally. You can view fire -affected businesses on a map, so you can plan out your road trip and which towns you would like to visit.

Batemans Bay businesses took matters into their own hands and made a video targeting Canberrans and urging them to come back. Canberra is only a 90 minute drive from Canberra and their tourist dollars are extremely important to the local economy.
